Scott Gerbert

For 30+ years, Mr. Gerbert has been an educator, serving as a teacher, district administrator, and county administrator, leading schools, districts, and county-wide programs around tobacco and cannabis prevention and interventions, along with other health and wellness topics. He has been involved in tobacco prevention efforts in California since 1997 and has been the chair or co-chair for the Alameda County Tobacco Control Coalition for the last 9+ years, as well as being an active member of numerous Drug Free Community (DFC) coalitions. He is also a Director for Rotary International’s Health Education and Wellness Rotary Action Group (HEWRAG), engaging in global health education and wellness work. He joined the team at Stanford's REACH lab in 2022, working to find additional ways to empower and educate communities to combat the Triangulum of tobacco, vaping, and cannabis, along with other health disparities and health inequities. His work centers around improving health and wellness literacy and lifting up youth voice and agency, while decreasing health disparities and health inequities.

Dr. Bonnie Halpern-Felsher is the Marron and Mary Elizabeth Kendrick Professor in Pediatrics II in the Division of Adolescent Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, Stanford University. Dr. Halpern-Felsher is a developmental psychologist with additional training in adolescent and young adult health. She is the founder and executive director of her Stanford REACH Lab as well as several nationally and internationally used substance use education preventions and interventions. She is the receipient of the 2025 American Lung Association Outstanding Mother Award, that recognizes women who balance work and family and make a significant contribution to the mission of the American Lung Association. She was also the receipient of the 2025 Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT) John Slade award, that recognizes individuals who’s research makes a significant impact on tobacco-related policy. Most recently, she received the 2026 Cullen Award from the American Society of Preventive Oncology. She is also a Past President of the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine. Funded by the NIH and many foundations, her research has focused on understanding and reducing adolescent and young adult tobacco, marijuana, and other drug use. Her research including over 250 publications, committee, and advocacy work have been instrumental in setting policy at the local, state, and national level. She has served as a consultant to several community-based adolescent health promotion programs, participated in three Surgeon General Reports, participated in six National Academies of Science committees, and has been a member on several national campaigns and committees to understand and reduce adolescent and young adult drug use.
