Daniel Harris is an associate professor at the University of Kentucky; he's jointly appointed in the College of Medicine (Internal Medicine, Division of Biomedical Informatics) and College of Pharmacy (Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science). He is the Director of Clinical Research Analytics for UK's Institute of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy.

His research focuses on expanding the role of biomedical informatics in clinical and public health data warehouses; in particular, he is interested in helping foster a more productive and useful data warehouse by leveraging the latest research in natural language processing, visualization, and geospatial analysis. Dr. Harris is co-investigator on multiple NIH-funded research projects related to substance use disorders. In 2024, Dr. Harris led a research team that won the DataWorks! Prize sponsored by the NIH and the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) for his work related to open data with geospatial pipelines for researchers. Dr. Harris’s work has been featured in the “Informatics Year in Review” at the American Medical Informatics Association Annual Symposium and by the National Drug Early Warning System (NDEWS).
