Amber Stepp

Amber Stepp began her journey with Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) as a Peer Recovery Coach at Harlan ARH, offering one-on-one support to individuals facing substance use and mental health challenges. Her dedication and leadership led to her promotion as Lead Recovery Coach for ARH, where she now supports peer recovery efforts across hospitals in Kentucky and West Virginia..

In her current role, Amber oversees a system-wide peer support team delivering bedside interventions, overdose response, harm reduction education, and treatment linkage through the Reverse the Cycle program. She helps implement SBIRT, CRAFT screening, and bridge prescribing to ensure a seamless continuum of care from hospital to community. Amber also plays a key role in outreach to high-risk areas, engaging individuals through homeless outreach, the justice system, and reentry services.

Beyond ARH, Amber is deeply involved in local recovery and harm reduction efforts. She proudly serves as Vice Chair of the Harlan UNITE Coalition and Chairperson of the Harlan County ASAP Board, leading collaborative efforts to prevent substance misuse and support recovery initiatives in her community.

Amber is a certified Peer Support Specialist, Community Support Associate (CSA), and Community Health Worker. Her work is grounded in a strong belief in the power of peer support, and she remains committed to creating hope, connection, and recovery opportunities throughout Appalachia.
