James C. Hixson started his career in law enforcement at the Chattanooga Police
Department in 1995. He worked in various roles in the Patrol Division, Field
Training, as an Investigator, and SWAT. In 2002, James was assigned as a DEA
Task Force Officer where he conducted long term complex conspiracy cases, served
as an expert witness, and taught narcotics related classes to local law enforcement
agencies and cadets. James continued working as a DEA Task Force Officer until his
retirement in December 2021 when he joined the Tennessee Dangerous Drugs Task
Force (TDDTF).
Utilizing the expertise gained during his 28-year law enforcement career, James
provides instruction on various narcotic related topics, conducts narcotic testing and
analyzing, and consults law enforcement agencies across the state. In addition, he
serves as the Authorized Central Storage Coordinator and provides oversite for the
Pill Take Back and Drug Evidence Incineration programs
