Peter has over 30 years’ experience in the substance use disorder treatment and recovery field. He joined the Office of National Drug Control (ONDCP) in 2010 as the Chief of the Recovery Branch. Currently, as a Senior Policy Analyst, Peter provides expertise on a wide range of public health policy and regulatory issues, including the organization and financing of treatment and recovery support services, employment for people in recovery, and parity. Peter helps develop the National Drug Control Strategy and leads cross-agency efforts to accomplish the governmentwide policy goals and objectives it establishes. As Chief of the Recovery Branch, Peter helped lay the foundation for federal policies, strategies, and actions in the addiction recovery domain. More recently, Peter led efforts to develop the U.S. Department of Labor’s Recovery-Ready Workplace Resource Hub, and the Recovery-Ready Workplace Toolkit, provided input into the development of the Recovery-Ready Workplaces Model State Act, and led an interagency workgroup to inform federal addiction recovery research.
As a person in long-term recovery from addiction to alcohol, Peter works to raise awareness of addiction and recovery and to reduce the stigma that undermines efforts to reduce drug use and its consequences.
Peter holds master’s degree from the University of Chicago Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice and a BA in English from Marquette University. He serves on the Advisory Board of the National Recovery Friendly Workplace Institute and is the immediate past President of the University of the Crown Family School Alumni Association Board.
