Lisa Rae
MD, FACS

Dr. Lisa Rae is Director of the Temple Burn Center and Associate Professor of Surgery at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. Prior to joining Temple, Dr. Rae was an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, and Burn Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She was also Director of the hospital’s Burn Surgical Fellowship program.

Dr. Rae earned her medical degree at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and completed her surgical residency at Georgetown University Hospital. She completed a burn surgery and a trauma, surgical critical care fellowship at the University of Washington’s in Seattle, and is board certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. She also serves as National Faculty for the Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) committee and the Global Health Committee of the American Burn Association. She has been funded by the World Health Organization (WHO) to assist in burn care for burn disasters including Sierra Leone and Ukraine.

Dr. Rae is held in high regard for her dedication to outcomes focused patient care. She continues to innovate in burn care through research including spray on skin and dermal substitutes. As an educator, she dedicates much of her time on prehospital providers, residents and fellows training in burn, trauma and surgical critical care. As a clinician with expertise in large soft tissue deficits, she has become increasingly involved in addressing the Xylazine crisis and improving the lives of people who inject drugs.
