Dr. Sarah T. Thomason is Professor and Chair of Pharmacy Practice at East Tennessee State University Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy, where she focuses on substance use disorders, opioid stewardship, and harm-reduction strategies across the Appalachian Highlands. A board-certified psychiatric and ambulatory care pharmacist, she has spent more than two decades working at the intersection of clinical practice, policy, and education to address the opioid crisis in Tennessee and Virginia. Dr. Thomason has led numerous regional initiatives aimed at preventing opioid misuse and overdose, including community education programs, naloxone distribution and training initiatives, and interdisciplinary efforts to improve treatment for opioid use disorder. She serves as Vice Chair of the Virginia Opioid Abatement Authority and has been appointed to multiple state and national advisory groups addressing substance use disorder policy and treatment. Through her clinical work, policy leadership, and extensive national presentations, Dr. Thomason continues to advance the role of pharmacists and interprofessional teams in improving prevention, treatment, and recovery outcomes for individuals affected by the opioid epidemic.
