Soomin Shin, M.A., has eight years of experience in conducting substance use research and evaluation-related activities, including expertise in qualitative research design, development of survey instruments, and qualitative analysis. Ms. Shin is trained in medical anthropology and her research interests broadly focus on seeking to better understand the patient-centered experience of substance use with socio-cultural lens. Her master’s thesis explored the cultural domains of recovery in a medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) treatment program among patients aged 18 to 25. She currently serves as a research associate for 1) Oregon’s Overdose Data to Action project, which aims to implement a strategic overdose prevention and response plan using surveillance data and community-driven interventions, and 2) Measure 110 Outcome Evaluation, which partners with Research Triangle Institute (RTI) to understand the impact of Oregon’s Measure 110, which decriminalized non-commercial drug possession.
