Stefan Kertesz
MD, MSc

Stefan G. Kertesz, MD is a professor of medicine at the UAB Heersink School of Medicine (University of Alabama at Birmingham) and a full-time physician at the Birmingham, Alabama VA Healthcare System. His career has focused on both direct care, clinical research and advocacy for populations subject to limitations in health care due to disability, social disadvantage or homelessness. He is board certified in internal medicine and addiction medicine and leads the Homeless Patient-Aligned Care Team at Birmingham Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where he also serves on the Opioid Advice Team and Pain/Opioid Safety Teams.

Dr Kertesz received his MD degree from Harvard Medical School in 1993 and in 2002, he received a MSc from the Boston University School of Public health in Boston. His research, has been funded sequentially by the National Institute on Drug Abuse and US Department of Veterans Affairs Research and Development Branch.
