Dr. Grant Baldwin is Director of the Division of Overdose Prevention in CDC’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control. He leads efforts to monitor trends in drug overdoses and emerging drug threats, identify and scale effective prevention strategies, and support local drug-free community coalitions.
Before this appointment in October 2019, Dr. Baldwin served for 11 years as Director of the Division of Unintentional Injury Prevention, helping elevate motor vehicle injury prevention; advancing older adult fall and traumatic brain injury prevention; and launching CDC’s initial response to the prescription opioid overdose epidemic. As the scope, scale, and complexity of the overdose epidemic evolved, CDC established the Division of Overdose Prevention as a focal point for expanded and diversified work in this area. Dr. Baldwin has served at CDC for 29 years. He holds a PhD in Health Behavior and Health Education from the University of Michigan and an MPH in Behavioral Sciences and Health Education from Emory University, where he is an adjunct professor. He has delivered keynote addresses and expert remarks at more than 160 national and international conferences, authored over 85 peer-reviewed publications, and received multiple awards recognizing his leadership and teaching.
