James Essell

James H. Essell, MD, is a medical oncologist, hematologist, and blood and marrow transplant specialist who is a leading authority on cellular therapy including bi-specif antibody treatment.  Dr. Essell is a national expert and author who is leading the cellular therapy program for SCRI . Dr. Essell serves as a principal investigator for cellular therapy clinical trials at OHC and is the national principal investigator for many cellular therapy trials for SCRI.  He also serves as the Medical Director of The Jewish Hospital — Mercy Health Cincinnati Cancer and Cellular Therapy Center.

Dr. Essell is one of the visionaries who worked diligently to bring a blood cancer center to Greater Cincinnati and continues that commitment by working to bring the newest treatments for blood cancer to residents of the region. After over 30 years dedicated years of providing exceptional patient care, Dr. Essell transitioned to an administrative role within our organization. While Dr. Essell no longer sees patients, he continues contributing his extensive expertise and leadership to enhance OHC's hematologic and cellular therapy services
