1:45 PM - 5:15 PM
Venous ulcers are the most prevalent type of chronic lower extremity ulcers, impacting 1% to 3% of the U.S. population. These ulcers significantly affect patients' quality of life while also imposing considerable clinical, economic, and psychosocial burdens on healthcare systems. This underscores the urgent need for a holistic approach to effectively address these challenges and improve patient outcomes. This interactive workshop will feature expert-led discussions and real-life case studies, delving into the underlying pathophysiology, innovative assessment techniques, and effective management strategies for venous leg ulcers (VLUs). Participants will engage in hands-on learning, applying evidence-based treatments such as wound bed preparation, bioburden management, compression technologies, and advanced dressings and therapies.
Supported by educational grants from Engineered Tissue Solutions, HARTMANN USA, Inc., LifeNet Health, NATROX® Wound Care, OVIK Health, Smith and Nephew, Solventum, Medical Surgical Business and XSONX, LLC.
Learning Objectives:
•Examine the role of compression therapy in the management of venous leg ulcers, including its mechanisms of action, indications, and evidence-based effectiveness in promoting healing and preventing recurrence
•Review the role of dressings in managing exudate from venous leg ulcers, focusing on how different dressing materials and absorbency levels promote optimal moisture balance, prevent maceration, and support wound healing.
•Explore the role of debridement in managing VLUs, including methods, techniques, and clinical benefits in promoting wound healing and preventing infection
•Evaluate the application of advanced therapies in the treatment of venous leg ulcers, including skin substitutes, negative pressure wound therapy, and topical oxygen therapy and assess their impact on wound healing and patient outcomes.
