Karen Bauer, DNP, APRN-FNP, CWS, FAPWCA is a Wound Certified and Vascular Surgery Nurse Practitioner. She graduated with an M.S. from The Ohio State University and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from The University of Toledo.
Karen is the Limb Preservation Coordinator at Emory, Division of Vascular Surgery. She served as the Director of Wound Services and Lead Vascular Surgery and Wound Advanced Practice Provider (APP) at The University of toledo for 14 years. She was pivotal in the design and development of the Fulton County Wound & Hyperbaric Center, where she was the Program Director for 10 years. Karen also lead the coordination of a wound-focused, multi-locational limb salvage service, linking ambulatory wound centers, post-acute care centers, and smaller hospitals to a tertiary academic center.Karen is the Immediate Past-President of the Society for Vascular Nursing and a long-time Board Member and Fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care. She is also a Board Member for the Alliance of Woundcare Stakeholders and the Save a Leg Save a Life Foundation. Karen participates on the American Heart Association’s Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) National Action Plan Steering Committee, is the Co-Chair of the AAWC Education Steering Committee, sits on the American Venous Forum’s APP Conference Planning Committee, and works closely with many other national organizations. She is also a published writer and reviewer for many academic journals, lectures regionally, nationally, and internationally. She also loves to hang out with her daughter, travel, play with her dog, exercise, and eat!
