Child and Adolescent Psychiatry for the General Clinician: Diagnosis and Initial Management

Many psychiatric providers encounter children and adolescents with mental health concerns, yet diagnostic and treatment approaches often differ significantly from adult care. This session provides a practical overview of common psychiatric conditions affecting youth, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, ADHD, and behavioral concerns. Faculty will review age-appropriate assessment strategies, key diagnostic considerations, and evidence-based initial management approaches to help clinicians confidently evaluate and support younger patients in a variety of practice settings.
