This session confronts the challenges clinicians face when encountering patients with suspected Bipolar II Disorder (BD-2), offering practical insights into the diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of managing this complex mood disorder, and differentiating it from unipolar depression (MDD), especially MDD with mixed features. Through a comprehensive exploration of the patient's diagnostic journey, the nuanced role of traditional antidepressants and evidence-based options for BD-2, participants will gain a deeper understanding of BD-2 and acquire tools to establish the diagnosis and thereby plan effective treatment. These tools will empower participants with the knowledge and skills needed to confidently navigate the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges seen when confronting depressed patients with suspected BD-2. By addressing key questions surrounding BD-2, participants will be better equipped to provide optimal care for individuals struggling with this often underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed mood disorder.
