Sorensen, Wilder and Associates

Steve Wilder is a nationally recognized leader in senior care safety, security, and risk management. With over 40 years of experience, Steve has conducted security vulnerability assessments and mock OSHA audits at hundreds of senior care facilities nationwide. Additionally, he has trained thousands of senior care workers in workplace safety and security practices. Steve is among the nation's few professional safety and security consultants who specialize in senior care, making him a recognized authority in this field.

Steve also spent 35 years in the fire service, retiring as fire chief in a suburban Chicago fire department. He brings decades of experience in emergency preparedness and life safety, with a significant portion of his career dedicated to supporting senior living and long-term care communities. He has worked extensively with assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care, and independent living facilities to develop, implement, and evaluate emergency operations plans that address natural disasters, utility failures, infectious disease outbreaks, evacuation and shelter-in-place decisions, and continuity of care. His experience includes conducting hazard vulnerability analyses, staff training and exercises, coordination with local emergency management and healthcare coalitions, and ensuring compliance with CMS, OSHA, and state regulatory requirements—always with a focus on protecting vulnerable populations and maintaining resident safety during emergencies.

In 2019, Steve was the recipient of the Illinois Security Professionals Association Emergency Preparedness Leadership award for his leadership activities at a senior care community in Pennsylvania after two residents of that facility were murdered in their room by an armed intruder.
