Dr. Krina K. Patel is an Associate Professor, Multiple Myeloma Section Chief, and Director of Myeloma Clinical Research in the Department of Lymphoma and Myeloma within the Division of Cancer Medicine at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) in Houston, Texas. She received her medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and completed her hematology-oncology fellowship at MD Anderson, where she served as Chief Fellow.
Dr. Patel has held multiple leadership roles at MD Anderson, including Center Medical Director, Service Line Leader, and Associate Program Director for the Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Program. She is a nationally recognized clinical investigator and serves as national principal investigator for multiple clinical trials in multiple myeloma, including studies of novel cellular therapies.
Her research focuses on improving outcomes for patients with multiple myeloma and other plasma cell disorders, with an emphasis on CAR T-cell therapy and the integration of immunotherapy and chemotherapy across disease settings. Her additional interests include POEMS syndrome and plasmablastic lymphoma.
She has led numerous clinical trials in immunotherapy and currently directs several CAR T-cell studies. Dr. Patel is also a dedicated mentor to fellows, residents, and junior faculty.
She is a member of ASH, ASCO, AACR, ASTCT, the International Myeloma Society, and the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF), and has published extensively in leading journals including NEJM, JCO, Blood, and The Lancet.
