Jean Bismuth

I am a Professor of Surgery in the Division of Vascular Surgery at the University of South Florida. I have a broad clinical experience that spans almost 30 years, although my primary clinical interests include aortic dissection, peripheral arterial disease and large venous surgery, my research has focused on novel technologies and therapies, particularly in the realm of cardiovascular imaging. I have engendered collaborative work across specialties, giving me insights into the application of novel imaging techniques in vascular surgery. As I also hold an Adjunct Professorship at Rice University in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Department of Mechanical Engineering, I have been able to collaborate on a number of varied topics in venous thrombosis and surgical training and skills assessment. I have also been a national PI for industry sponsored trials, which gives me an understanding for the development of protocols, critical research structure and funding.
I have received funding from such sources as The National Institute of Health (NIH), The National Science Foundation (NSF), The American Heart Association (AHA) and The Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS), among others. The focus of my work has primarily been based in imaging of the vascular system to not only better understand pathological changes, but also to evaluate the impact of implanting devices.
