James Lord, MD, PhD, is a Research Associate Member at the Benaroya Research Institute (BRI) and an attending in Gastroenteroligy at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health (VMFH) in Seattle, WA. Having obtained a PhD in immunology in the 1990's and completed an MD, residency and fellowship at the University of Washington (UW), his focus is on translational research in inflammatory bowel disease. He founded the GI component of a human specimen biorepository at BRI, which contains live blood and mucosal samples from well over a thousand IBD patients from his clinic, and is actively using this resource to understand the mucosal immunology of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, an how it is directly impacted by modern therapeutics.
