Resident Safety Roundtable: Knowing What’s Normal: Using Resident Baselines to Support Independence, Safety, and Individual Health Journeys

Senior living leaders face an ongoing challenge of protecting resident safety while preserving independence, autonomy, and personal choice. As residents' needs and routines evolve, recognizing meaningful changes early can help teams respond more effectively without unnecessarily restricting daily life.

Using Kendal at Ithaca as a real-world operator example, this Roundtable will explore how resident-specific baselines, including movement, engagement, sleep, activity, and help requests, can help communities distinguish normal behaviors from emerging risks. Through facilitated discussion, participants will examine when changes should prompt intervention, how technology can support more personalized care, and how to balance proactive awareness with privacy, dignity, and staff workload.

Ted Tzirimis is CEO of Intrex, a technology company creating innovative solutions for seniors and senior living communities. With 15+ years of senior care leadership, he previously served as Chief Innovation Officer at THE MEDICAL TEAM, a national home health and hospice provider, and held roles including Regional Manager. Earlier, he spent six years as a Senior Research Analyst in enterprise software. A frequent press contributor and keynote speaker, he holds an MBA from Virginia Tech and a BA from Franklin & Marshall College.
