Lunch & Learn: Seven Measures. One Mission: What the 2026 ESO EMS Index Reveals About Prehospital Care

Every day, EMS providers respond to calls that generate data — and that data is quietly keeping score. The 2026 ESO EMS Index analyzes 17.31 million 911 encounters across 4,459 agencies to document what is actually happening in prehospital care: how often suspected opioid overdose patients receive buprenorphine in the field, whether obstetric patients in hypertensive crisis get treated to guideline thresholds, how many syncope patients leave the scene without a 12-lead ECG, and whether stroke is being recognized before crews ever arrive at the hospital.

This session presents findings from all seven measures in the 2026 Index — including two new measures added this edition — alongside equity breakdowns by race, ethnicity, age, and sex. Presenters Antonio Fernandez, PhD, NRP, and Ali Treichel, MPH, will walk through what the data shows, what it means for your agency, and how to use ESO Insights to query your own performance against national benchmarks before you leave the room.
