Circulating Hope: Managing ECMO Patients in Transport

This preconference session is focused on the practical considerations of transporting patients receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Designed for prehospital and critical care transport clinicians, this course addresses the unique challenges associated with ECMO transport and the skills required to support these complex patients safely. Participants will explore key concepts related to ECMO physiology, equipment management, team coordination, and risk mitigation during transport. Through focused discussion and real-world context, this session aims to support clinicians who are responsible for the care of ECMO patients outside the traditional hospital setting and to help close existing knowledge gaps in this evolving area of transport medicine.
