On January 7, 2026, Reuters reported that OpenAI launched a “ChatGPT Health” tab designed as a dedicated space for health-related use cases, including the ability for users to ask health and wellness questions, upload medical records, and connect data from wellness apps such as Apple Health and MyFitnessPal. OpenAI positioned the launch as an expansion of one of ChatGPT’s most common use cases, saying 230+ million people globally ask health and wellness questions on ChatGPT each week.

According to Reuters, ChatGPT Health is intended to support practical tasks like understanding recent test results, preparing for doctor appointments, getting diet and workout guidance, and even weighing insurance tradeoffs based on individual patterns. OpenAI also emphasized privacy controls, stating that Health operates as a separate space with enhanced privacy and that conversations in Health are not used to train its foundation models.

The launch comes amid shifting regulatory signals on consumer health tech: Reuters notes that FDA Commissioner Marty Makary recently said the agency would limit regulation of wearables and software aimed at supporting healthy lifestyles, and he has described ChatGPT as a product that should be promoted while still cautioning about safety concerns. OpenAI said the feature is initially available to a small group of early users on multiple plan tiers outside the EEA, Switzerland, and the UK, with plans to expand access on web and iOS in the coming weeks.
