HMP Education, LLC has designated an unrestricted educational grant from MIMOSA Diagnostics for support of this session.

Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) has emerged as a valuable tool in wound care, particularly for assessing microcirculation in patients with chronic wounds. NIRS operates by measuring the absorption of near-infrared light by oxygenated and deoxygenated hemoglobin, providing real-time data on tissue oxygenation and perfusion. This Rapid Fire session will look at how this non-invasive technique offers significant advantages over traditional methods such as the ankle-brachial index (ABI), which primarily evaluates macrocirculation and may yield less accurate results in patients with microvascular disease. By offering detailed insights into microcirculatory status, NIRS can help guide and enhance clinical decision-making, leading to more precise interventions and improved wound healing outcomes. Hard-to-heal Lower extremity cases will be discussed.
