Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is rare neutrophilic dermatosis that presents as an inflammatory and ulcerative disorder of the skin. More than half of patients with PG develop the disorder in association with an underlying systemic disease. One of the most important features of the disease is pathergy, which is the exaggerated response to a minor skin injury or worsening of an existing wound with minimal insult or trauma. The wound care approach requires an interprofessional approach to treat the whole patient and address techniques to heal painful, rapidly evolving cutaneous ulcerations.
