Although underlying patient comorbidities may present obstacles to wound healing, it is increasingly acknowledged that most hard-to-heal wounds contain biofilm, which presents a significant barrier to healing. Overcoming the barrier presented by biofilm should be a key focus in managing and ultimately healing these complex wounds.

This session will provide an overview of biofilm in the context of complex wounds, followed by a clinical case-based approach demonstrating the use of an advanced antimicrobial wound dressing as part of a Wound Hygiene protocol to overcome biofilm and wound infection and progress these wounds to healing.
