Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a rare, rapidly enlarging, potentially life-threatening ulcerative neutrophilic dermatosis, that can arise from pathergy, including skin trauma, or other triggers. PG is characterized by sterile pustular skin lesions that rapidly evolve into tender skin ulcers. Diagnosis of PG is challenging and misdiagnosis is not uncommon. PG is associated with a substantial burden on quality of life, as it is a debilitating disease with an unpredictable disease course. There are no FDA-approved therapies for PG, and with data lacking, management strategies remain anecdotal. IL-36 is implicated in the pathophysiology of PG and contributes to inflammatory response and progression of disease.
