This program addresses major depressive disorder (MDD), a complex and increasingly prevalent condition marked by depressed mood, anhedonia, and residual symptoms like anxiety and insomnia that persist despite first-line treatment. Since many patients only partially respond to SSRIs/SNRIs, this program prepares psychiatrists and mental health providers to detect partial response and evaluate augmentation strategies with atypical antipsychotics, including aripiprazole, quetiapine XR, brexpiprazole, and cariprazine. This program also covers lumateperone, an investigational agent under FDA review for MDD augmentation, highlighting how its distinct mechanism may target specific residual symptoms.
