Supported by an educational grant from Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Advances in schizophrenia treatment are expanding beyond traditional dopamine D2 receptor antagonism, with muscarinic receptor–based therapies offering a novel mechanism of action. This session will compare muscarinic approaches with conventional antipsychotics, and participants will develop skills in interpreting clinical trial data for both approved and investigational muscarinic agents, including the use of appropriate efficacy endpoints and understanding regulatory context. The session will also address practical considerations for incorporating these therapies into clinical practice with emphasis on patient-centered strategies to optimize adherence and outcomes. Attendees will leave equipped to critically evaluate and thoughtfully integrate emerging muscarinic-based treatments into schizophrenia care.
