Malnutrition is a common complication in wound healing and a major contributor to decreased functionality, quality of life, and increased morbidity and mortality. Pressure injuries, as with all hard-to-heal wounds, require sufficient macronutrients and micronutrients, iron and fluid for optimal healing. Combining perspectives of a pharmacist and registered dietitian, this session offers approaches to stimulate appetite in patients with severe malnutrition utilizing targeted medications and nutritional guidelines.
