Ruth Bryant, PhD, RN, CWOCN-Retired/Emeritus, WOCNF, FAAWC

Ruth’s career spans over 45 years as a WOC Nurse, board certified through 2022. She has held WOC nursing positions in Omaha, NE, Minneapolis, Oklahoma City and Spokane WA. She was the Program Director of the Abbott Northwestern WOC Nursing Education Program and later, in 1999, Ruth partnered with Bonnie Sue Rolstad to co-create the first web-based WOC nursing education program: the webWOC. Ruth was President of the Wound Ostomy Continence Nurses Society from 1992 – 1996 and is the Past President of the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care (AAWC). In June of 2025, Ruth was inducted as an honorary Fellow in the WOCN Society.
Since completing her PhD she has been a Nurse Scientist and is currently employed by Essentia Health in Duluth MN.
Ruth has many publications to her name including the textbook Acute and Chronic Wounds, currently in its 6th edition, and which she co-edits with Denise Nix. As a Nurse Scientist, Ruth has published several papers on a variety of topics including the early detection of pressure injuries with subepidermal moisture.
Ruth is now selectively retired as a consultant and Nurse Scientist striving to prioritize time for golf and grandkids.
