Doctor Iqbal is an Interventional Radiologist at the Massachusetts General Hospital and serves as the Director for quality & safety for Interventional Radiology. Shams is passionate about finding new techniques to help patients get the best care possible across IR. He developed a new technique for Intraoperative localization of small lung nodule at surgery decreasing morbidity and increasing safety and accuracy. He is the chairman of the “SIR give back program” and helps Interventional Radiology programs across the globe. He is the Leader for SIR Global educational initiative. His basic research is in nanotechnology techniques for early diagnosis of cancers and metastases, focusing on cholangiocarcinoma. He is working on device development, with devices in the pipeline for gastroparesis management by neuromodulation. His overarching goal is to provide good quality Interventional Radiology training and IR care to patients across the globe and find early diagnosis of cancers to prolong patient survival.
