Anthony Solhjoo

Anthony Solhjoo, M.P.A.S., PA-C, is a board-certified Physician Assistant and Clinical Research Sub-Investigator in the Department of Dermatology at UT Southwestern Medical Center with specialized expertise in Hidradenitis Suppurativa and other inflammatory skin diseases.

He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Texas at Dallas, graduating summa cum laude. During his undergraduate studies, he worked as a research assistant for UT Southwestern’s Department of Dermatology.

He later earned a Master of Physician Assistant Studies from the UT Southwestern School of Health Professions, where he was inducted into the Alpha Eta Honor Society and nominated for the Raul Caetano, M.D., Student Research Award.

He has since returned to the Department of Dermatology, where he provides care and promotes an inclusive health care environment for all patients while actively supporting late-phase, industry-sponsored, clinical trials across HS, psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, cutaneous lupus erythematosus, and atopic dermatitis.

Mr. Solhjoo is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners. He is also a member and Emerging Scholar of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants.

Masterclass: Beyond Current Biologics: Exploring Novel Strategies in Hidradenitis Suppurativa

Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that often goes unrecognized, leading to delayed diagnosis and significant patient burden. This session reviews the pathogenesis of HS, strategies for early identification, and approaches to individualized treatment. Faculty will discuss current biologic therapies alongside emerging data on oral JAK inhibitors and their potential role in disease management. Attendees will gain practical guidance on treatment selection, sequencing, and optimizing long-term outcomes for patients with HS.

Learning Objectives

Recognize the clinical presentations, high-risk features, and consequences of delayed diagnosis in HS to support timely, evidence-based intervention and prevent disease progression
Explain the role of the JAK/STAT signaling pathway in HS pathogenesis and describe the mechanisms by which oral JAK1 inhibitors may modulate disease activity
Evaluate the efficacy and safety data for biologic therapies and oral JAK inhibitors in HS to inform individualized treatment selection
Apply evidence-based treatment strategies for patients with moderate-to-severe HS, incorporating patient preferences, comorbidities, prior treatment response, and practical considerations into shared decision-making

Alice Gottlieb

Dr. Alice B. Gottlieb is an internationally recognized expert in the field of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Her research uses targeted immunobiologics as pathogenic probes, providing a new understanding of the pathogenesis of psoriasis and providing the foundation for biologic drug development in these two debilitating diseases. In addition, she is a noteworthy researcher, but she is also an exceptionally outstanding clinician and educator. She is triple board-certified in dermatology, rheumatology, and internal medicine, making her one of only a handful of doctors in the United States to be certified in all three specialties. Her research has helped the numerous students, residents, and fellows she has trained, as well as the dermatologic community at large, which wants to understand how to diagnose and manage psoriatic arthritis. Dr. Gottlieb is the recipient of numerous awards, including the American Academy of Dermatology’s (AAD) 2023 Master Dermatologist Award and the 2016 National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF) Outstanding Educator in Psoriatic Disease Award.
