Kevin Miller is an experienced healthcare and emergency services leader with a strong background in EMS operations, higher education, and public-sector administration. As Associate Dean of Health at Northwest Iowa Community College, he oversees multiple health science programs, ensuring accreditation compliance, curriculum quality, faculty development, and strong clinical partnerships. Prior to his work in higher education, Kevin served as Director of EMS for the City of Sheldon, where he advanced clinical training, strengthened community collaboration, and implemented evidence-based practices to improve program outcomes. His career also includes service as a Police Officer for the City of Hawarden, where he contributed to community engagement, safety, and collaborative problem-solving.

This course explores the foundations of EMS education through the concept of the four-legged stool: classroom instruction, hands-on lab practice, clinical field experience, and high-fidelity simulation. Students learn how each component supports competency-based learning and prepares future EMS providers for real-world practice. Emphasis is placed on developing balanced curricula, aligning instruction with national standards, and integrating meaningful assessment strategies to ensure skill mastery and student success. Participants will examine best practices, evaluate program effectiveness, and design learning activities that contribute to producing well-rounded, confident EMS professionals.
