Brooke has dedicated her career to advancing patient safety, leadership, and culture in EMS. Drawing from over thirty years of frontline paramedic experience and national-level QI collaboration, she helps agencies design systems that make excellence the norm. Brooke is a published researcher and serves on EMS World's Editorial Review Board and committees for the National EMS Information System (NEMSIS). Brooke is Past President of the National EMS Management Association (NEMSMA) and President of the National EMS Quality Alliance (NEMSQA). Brooke teaches for national leadership programs including the National Association of EMS Physicians (NAEMSP) Quality and Safety Course. Brooke was the recipient of the American Ambulance Association 2016 award for Best Quality Improvement Program. Brooke’s work centers on building emotionally intelligent, accountable, high-trust EMS teams through clarity, connection, and data-driven improvement.

AI, EMS, and the Future of QI: What’s Hype and What’s Actually Useful

AI is quietly shaping EMS documentation, analytics, and quality workflows right now. Yet most leaders still struggle to tell what’s genuinely useful, what’s risky, and what’s just hype.

This session cuts through the noise with a clear, practical look at how AI can support quality improvement without compromising safety or trust. Attendees will explore real examples of AI identifying clinical trends, assisting case review, and extracting themes from narratives—alongside the equally real pitfalls of bias, overconfidence, and inaccurate outputs when data is incomplete or poorly structured.

Participants will learn how to evaluate AI tools, implement them responsibly, and protect psychological safety while leveraging automation to reduce QI workload and enhance system insight. The goal is not to replace human judgment, but to strengthen it. Leaders will leave with a grounded, actionable framework for using AI ethically, transparently, and effectively in their EMS systems.

Remle Crowe

Dr. Remle Crowe's path to EMS research took a scenic route, beginning as a volunteer EMT with the Red Cross in Mexico City while engineering powertrains at Ford Motor Company, where she earned a Six Sigma Black Belt. A research fellowship at the National Registry made EMS her full-time mission.
With a PhD in Epidemiology and more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, she now serves as Senior Director of Research and Data Enablement at ESO, leading initiatives that transform large-scale prehospital datasets into practice-changing insights. Her work spans academic partnerships, national quality initiatives, and evidence-based product development, all driven by the conviction that every system is perfectly designed to get the results it gets. She is committed to using data to drive system change and helping others do the same.
