While the fundamentals of EMS care remain human-centered, the tools for training the next generation are rapidly evolving. Generative AI is moving beyond simple text prompts to create dynamic, interactive learning environments. This session will move past the basics of AI adoption and dive deep into actionable strategies for leveraging AI in EMS education and training. Specifically, we will explore the powerful use of AI chatbots and large language models (LLMs) to create learning tools for struggling EMT and paramedic students, highly realistic, adaptable virtual patients for assessment and communication training, as well as their role in rapidly designing complex mass casualty incident (MCI) and tabletop exercise (TTX) simulations.
Attendees will learn how to leverage free AI tools to create AI prompts that develop customizable patient encounters, from simulating challenging histories to interpreting subtle signs and symptoms. We will also demonstrate how AI can assist in the creation of comprehensive training modules, including generating curriculum, study aids for certification exams (NREMT/paramedic), and automated post-scenario feedback. The core message remains: Generative AI won't replace EMS professionals, but those who master its use in education will elevate their training programs and the readiness of their staff.
