Joshua Crews
Paramedic

Joshua Crews serves as the Resource Engagement Specialist and primary educator for a grant program named the Tennessee First Responder Resource Engagement Specialty Team (REST). This grant is funded by SAMHSA through the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and managed by the Prevention Coalition for Success in Rutherford County Tennessee. The program provides unique education and resources to first responders when interacting with individuals who struggle with Substance Use Disorder. Josh grew up in the volunteer fire service in a rural community in north Alabama and started Emergency Medical Technician class when he was 17 years old through the Alabama Fire College, this ultimately progressed to Paramedic school. During his career as a first responder, he has worked as an officer in two volunteer fire departments, a county wide rescue squad, as well as a cave and high-angle rescue team and now has over 20 years as an Emergency Medical Services Provider. Josh has taught fire, rescue, and EMS education to professionals all over the southeast and worked full time as a Paramedic in Huntsville, Alabama until a significant injury occurred and he transitioned to Emergency Medical Dispatch in 2014. Josh started in community overdose education and prevention in March of 2018 and went back to college and obtained his Bachelors of Science in Criminal Psychology from Liberty University. He now provides specialized training to first responders as part of the REST program which he had the pleasure to help write and develop.
