Dr. James Foran MD FRCPC is a graduate from the Faculty of Medicine at the Univeristy of Manitoba in Winnipeg, and completed residency in Internal Medicine (Beth Israel) and Fellowship (Dana-Farber Cancer Institute) in Boston, and subsequent training in BMT and Haemato-Oncology at St. Bartholomew's Hospital (University of London, UK). He is currently a Professor of Medicine and Clinician-investigator in the Leukemia/BMT program at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville Florida for the past 15 years, and the Chair of the Acute Leukemia and Myeloid Neoplasm/BMT Disease group in the 3-site Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Dr. Foran is an active investigator in NCI clinical trials, served 2 terms on the NCI Leukemia Steering Committee, and has also served as principal investigator on many early phase and randomized clinical trials in leukemia and MDS, including the large ECOG-ACRIN E2906 phase 3 trial of intensive therapy in older adults with AML.
Dr. Foran has a long background in postgraduate medical education, including previously serving as the Hematology & Medical Oncology Fellowship Program Director at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and was a Member on the ASCO Annual Meeting education program committee and the ASH Committee on Educational Affairs for 2 terms where he was extensively involved with the Highlights of ASH programs in the US and internationally.
In addition to many invited educational presentations nationally and internationally on AML, MDS, and allogeneic transplantation, and has served as a Course Director for the Mayo Clinic Acute and Chronic Leukemia course for many years.
